What decisions does a database still need a person for?

What should someone in this role focus on learning?
Since routine tuning and backups are increasingly automatic, the skill worth building is judgment under pressure: practicing how to weigh a restore decision quickly during an outage, and getting comfortable pushing back on a risky request from the business side. Staying close to whatever AI tooling a team adopts for monitoring and recovery is also worth it, since knowing its blind spots is what makes the on-call judgment calls sound.
