AI is taking over planning commission staff reports, zoning analysis, and GIS mapping, shrinking entry-level work. But at city and county planning departments, the main employers, public hearings and community engagement stay human and adoption is slow, so hiring there shrinks later than at consulting firms. AICP certification is voluntary, so it offers no protection.
