Entry-level first officer jobs are protected by the two-pilot requirement, FAA certification, and pilot unions, and retirements at the mandatory age of 65 keep demand up. The decline comes in the late 2030s, when single-pilot operations in long-haul cruise start cutting demand for relief pilots first. A degree alone does not guarantee a pilot certificate.
