What lobbying work has software already taken over?

If AI can write the argument, why do lobbyists still have jobs?
What a client is actually paying for is access — a lawmaker or their staff picking up the phone because they trust the person calling — and no software has that relationship. Registering as a federal lobbyist under disclosure law also means putting your own name and reputation behind every position, which keeps this fundamentally a person-to-person trade even as the research behind it automates.
How should someone build a lasting career in this field?
A political-science background still helps with the substance, but the real career investment is time spent actually building relationships with legislative staff early, since that's the asset AI can't shortcut. Volunteering for campaign or committee work while still junior is a common way people earn the access that later becomes the job itself.
