AI is taking over entry-level desk work such as design and drawing reviews, but tracing faults on live circuits and commissioning stay with people, and the legal requirement that facilities appoint a certified electrical engineer, along with demand from new data centers and substation expansions, props up hiring. That said, a degree alone does not guarantee the national Electrical Engineer certification.

Major lifespan is the time left until AI is expected to start shrinking hiring of this major’s graduates. It doesn’t mean the major will disappear or that everyone will lose their job.
