AI is taking over entry-level work at design firms, such as drawings, quantity takeoffs, and design reports. But public-bid prequalification (PQ) counts how many engineers a firm employs, assigning site engineers and site agents is required by law, and leading work crews still takes people, so hiring in construction and the public sector holds up.
